ICC Announced: All teams are allowed to make changes to their squad until 25 May, after which any alteration will require approval from ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
In the last few years, Afghanistan’s cricket team has made incredible progress. They’ve become strong in Asia and even beaten bigger teams sometimes. Also, they’ve qualified directly for ICC tournaments several times recently. In the last T20 World Cup in 2022, Afghanistan had a tough time. They played 5 matches in the Super 12 round. Unfortunately, two matches got rained out, and they lost the other 3. As a result, Afghanistan ended up at the bottom of their group’s points table without a single win.
Afghanistan has chosen its 15 players for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. Rashid Khan will lead the team. They’ve added some new players this time: Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad.
However, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led Afghanistan in last year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, isn’t in the team. He hasn’t played a T20I match since 2022.
Nangyal Kharoti, a young player who started playing internationally for Afghanistan this year against Ireland is also Included in the team. He did really well in that series, taking five wickets in three matches with a low economy rate of 5.90. Also, Mohammad Ishaq, who played for Afghanistan in the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups, has earned a spot in the team as a wicketkeeper and batter.
Rashid will lead the spin team, backed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and veteran Mohammad Nabi. Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq are still in Afghanistan’s fast-bowling squad.
