India is scheduled to start their journey in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a match against Ireland on June 5, 2024.
The schedule for the T20 World Cup 2024 was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday, January 7, 2024. India, the first T20 world champion, is placed in group A along with Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the host USA. The 2024 T20 World Cup introduces an innovative format, featuring 20 teams for the inaugural edition.
The participating teams are organized into four groups of five. Two leading teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8 round, which will be divided into 2 groups of 4. The top 2 teams from both groups in the Super 8 stage will advance to the semi-finals, and both semi-final winners will meet in the final on June 29th.

After a heart-wrenching defeat by Australia in the ODI World Cup final in 2023, India not only set a goal to win the ICC title after 11 years but also to pick up the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time in history. India secured its only victory as T20 World Cup champions 17 years ago in the first T20 World Cup in 2007.
Afterwards, India was eliminated in the Super 8 stage in 2009, 2010, and 2012, and was defeated by Sri Lanka in the 2014 World Cup final. In the 2021 event, India exited in the Super 12 stage and faced exits in the semi-finals in 2016 and 2022. The Champions Trophy in 2013 was India’s last ICC victory under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

India, scheduled to play all their group matches in the USA, will kick off their journey against Ireland on June 5th in New York. However, the most awaited showdown between India and Pakistan is also scheduled at Eisenhower Park in New York. This crucial match is set to be an exciting event in the second group stage.
In the group stage, India has to play their matches at different venues in the USA. They will face the host USA on June 12th in New York and Canada in Florida on June 15th. After that, the Super 8 matches will shift to Caribbean venues. India must secure a position in the top 2 of the group stage to qualify for the Super 8.
